The HEY JAZZ GUY Blog

Ellnora Guitar Festival

Two weeks ago, I got on a plane with Victor Jones and Harvie S, two of the most talented jazz musicians in the world. We were headed however, to my gig, at the Ellnora Guitar Festival.

Midwest Party

We just played a fantastic show in Cleveland. After a week off from the road, the whole group met up again in LA and played a huge festival the next day in Turlock CA. The band is in top form and tomorrow we play in Chicago, at the amazing version of the House of Blues that they have there.

Im plotting a new album now, and Im really excited about the music. Been thinking up a term for jazz influenced by U2 and Greenday... "Punk Jazz" ?

16,000

In the milestones of a musicians life, certain things are too significant to go without mention. Tonight, I played my first arena show. We've been flirting with the concept all summer, playing many outdoor venues with large lawns, sheds and other variations of the outdoor summer festival scene. But tonight was an "official" arena, with a capacity of 16,000 and a big banner declaring itself to be so. These are the moments that make all the other hours, be they practice room, being a businessman, or everything else artists do with their time, completely worth it.

New Orleans

Today, after two days off chilling, we played the house of blues in new orleans with the Nat and Alex Wolff Summer Road Trip Tour. The show was incredible. The energy from the audience was amazing...there is something special about this city. Last time we were here, some girls threw bras onstage...for a kids show!

Im sitting here in the back of the bus with Nat, talking over the show. Its amazing how quickly and energetically these guys learn music. Im so jealous of their learning curve!

Out on the road with Wolff Brothers...

Here we are... out on the road with the most talented youngsters around... Nat and Alex Wolff. For those of you unfamiliar, Nat and Alex are Nickelodeon TV stars of the show "The Naked Brothers Band". They write all their own music and when we perform live, Nat sings and plays guitar and piano, and Alex plays drums, and sings a few here and there.
