16,000
In the milestones of a musicians life, certain things are too significant to go without mention. Tonight, I played my first arena show. We've been flirting with the concept all summer, playing many outdoor venues with large lawns, sheds and other variations of the outdoor summer festival scene. But tonight was an "official" arena, with a capacity of 16,000 and a big banner declaring itself to be so. These are the moments that make all the other hours, be they practice room, being a businessman, or everything else artists do with their time, completely worth it.
Nat and Alex killed it tonight, as is usual with this band. The rest of the band is so tight by now, after playing together for a year, you can't buy that kind of chemistry. Boris and I have our choreography down, filling all of Nat's tunes with a bunch of moves ripped off from 80s music videos and Poison concerts. I think we've become quite an exciting act to watch, so much as hear, which is important when the competition is the highly broadway-esq Disney channel acts like Jonas and Miley Cyrus.
So now, chilling out in the bus, jamming out to Gun'n'Roses with Misty and Patrick (our tour manager), life feels pretty good. We're about to roll out to wine country and play a show in Sonoma county on wednesday. Then it's back to NYC for me for a few days to work on my new album a little bit (in the practice room!). The second leg of this tour begins back in California, so the adventure continues.
Misty puts on Goo Goo Dolls, and Nat and Alex come back from the rides, so Im out, and we're rolling. Slide Slide Slide...what a great tune!!
